Protecting your natural resources

  The Clinton Land Conservation Trust is having it's Annual Peeper Prowl on Saturday May 2, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. at the Indian River Sports Complex on Rte. 81.  All "Prowlers" should meet in the Park and Rec building for a slideshow, followed by the prowl led by herpetologist Chuck Annicelli.

. This land surrounds and protects the Weiss and Five Fields wells aquifers that provide over one  million gallons of extremely pure water a day. The protection of these properties will help ensure a high water quality of these important public water supplies. Moreover, both of these properties provide links and greenways for wildlife and humans alike

The Alice and David Crosby Environmental Scholarship
The Alice and David Crosby Environmental Scholarship was established in 1997 in memory of Alice C. Crosby, who was for many years Chairman of the Clinton Board of Education. Subsequently, Alice's husband, David Crosby, a former CLCT Board member and graduate of the Yale School of Forestry, was added to the name of the scholarship. Alice and David Crosby became members of the Clinton Land Conservation Trust in its early days and remained active in its programs and projects throughout the rest of their lives. The scholarship is a $1,000 grant awarded each year to a Clinton graduating senior planning to pursue an education in a field related to the study of or preservation of the environment. .

ELIGIBILITY AND CRITERIA

1. Student applicant must be a resident of Clinton and a graduating high school senior.

2. Student must be accepted at an accredited institution of higher learning that he/she plans to attend within one year of secondary school graduation.

3. Candidate must show evidence of a demonstrated commitment to the environment.

4. Applicant's stated academic goals must be focused on the environment (e.g., botany, silviculture, environmental law of ournalism, forest resource management, ornithology, etc,).

5. Application/addenda shall be received by the CLCT Scholarship Committee in a timely manner.

Award decision will be made by June 1. The successful candidate will be informed of the Scholarship Committee's selection within seven days.

The Clinton Land Conservation Trust, Inc. was founded in 1967 by concerned citizens as a private, non-profit organization chartered by the State of Ct. The purpose and functions of the Trust according to its Certificate of Incorporation are:

1 ) To promote the Preservation of natural resources of the Town of Clinton, including water resources, marshland, swamps, woodlands and open spaces, and unique scenic and historic sites.

2 ) To promote the study of local natural resources and to inform and educate the general public with respect thereto.

3 ) To acquire property by gift, purchase, or otherwise, and to hold and use it to carry out the above-stated purposes.

Monthly CLCT Work Project

 

On the 2nd or 3rd Saturday of every month, CLCT Volunteers meet at 8:am at various sites to work for two hours to maintain and improve CLCT Properties in town.  Continue to check this site to obtain the specific date for each months work date and information.

 

 

          We'll be doing more trail clearing so folks should bring the usual - loppers, hand saws, hand pruners, gloves, etc.
